Watching your waistline
Shoppers could be cruising the aisles at supermarkets with new high-tech carts that do more than just carry groceries.
The intelligent shopping carts will be set up with a computer screen and barcode scanner that can count calories and provide nutritional, environmental and ethical information on each and every item.
EDS, a U.S. technology services company, is responsible for developing the cart. It said that by using the computer screen and barcode method, unnecessary packaging would be eliminated and help to keep the environment clean.
According to a survey, many people would prefer to have all the information at their fingertips instead of having to read the small print on the packages. Some carts sporting the touch screen computers have been trialed in U.S. stores.
